A little bit of a shitpost, but nevertheless...I do think this goes beyond HTML's domain. HTML isn't there to make it easy for web developers - HTML is a way to communicate to a browser as well as accessibility tools how to display web documents.

HTML should be as bare bones as necessary. HTML input pickers makes sense because they restrict on certain types of fundamental data. I'm of the opinion that even "date" might be going beyond the scope, but I can understand it's probably making life for mobile users much easier.
